Four captains and one super blunder

For all his theories John Buchanan could not get one simple logic right. Bowling in a most tense situation like the make-or-break super over is not just about rushing in to bowl.
Every ball the field placement has to be right, the captain and players need to cheer up the bowler, give him confidence, each ball has to be discussed before delivery.
Instead the Sri Lankan Ajantha Mendis stood clueless and bowled like a zombie giving Rajasthan Royals a victory on a canter after Sourav Ganguly brought the Kolkata Knight Riders level with his stellar display.
The rules about the ball condition for that over is not clear but if it was a new ball, it certainly meant it would have been that much more difficult for Mendis to bowl. But question is, was there any communication going out there?
