All the England’s men

Apart from the fact that the English cricket team can post a serious challenge to the Australians once every decade – enough to keep the media newsprint churning till the next time – the current squad is a delight for the men who dabble in the wizardry of words.
A journalist, a copywriter or an author’s delight. That is the captain Andrew Strauss’ side and the skipper leads by example. Some cliches and some gems:
Andrew Strauss: “England clutch on Strauss to save follow-on”
Paul Collingwood (T20 captain): “Collingwood shows nerves of steel”, “Collingwood’s polished century helps steady boat”…
Monty Panesar: “Spinner does a full Monty”, “Monty bares all”…
Graham Onions: “Onions has Australians crying”, “Onions peels off the top order”, “Onions strikes bitter blow”…
Ian Bell: “Bell alarm for rivals”, “Bell serves notice”…
Matt Prior: “Prior goes ahead”, “Prior-ity on batting”…
Stephen Harmison: “Harmison causes major damage”, “Australia in Harm’s way”…
Alistair Cook: “Cook serves in time”, “Cook upsets Australia’s appetite”…
Stuart Broad: “Bowler’s Broad view”, “England ride on Broad way”, “Broad shoulders England burden”…
Keep them coming, ye England selectors.
