Gameweek 2 jitters in Fantasy Premier League

Gameweek 2 of the Fantasy Premier League is upon us and I did not do badly with 65 points finishing just outside the first 100k around the world. The saving grace is that I just am about to hold on to my leader status as defending champion in my office league.

This is no man’s land territory in Fantasy Premier League.

Those who want to hit the ground running and are not quite at the top, like me, may be tempted to hit the wild card button straight away. But then the first week could be a false dawn for players or gems ‘discovered’.

Will Nathan Redmond the new Dimitri Payet or Fernando Llorente this season’s Jamie Vardy?

Popular logic is to go for the wild card, even if you are doing okay, just after Gameweek 3 over the international break to get the perfect mix from the three pointers at disposal.

There are second thoughts for me as well as I chose Henrikh Mkhitaryan over Eden Hazard and Roberto Firmino did not fire either despite the seven-goal spread in the Liverpool-Arsenal game. The assumption that Eden Hazard will take time to get going after a tiring Euro campaign proved misguided.

But I have decided to gamble by staying put instead of a four-point hit to make way. Chelsea’s intent and fixture ease against Watford prompted the exit of the promising West Ham signing Sofiane Feghouli, who already has hurt his hamstring. That brings in N’Golo Kante who is good but can he be among the assists and goals which matter for points?

Another no-man’s land question.
