Time to bolster early as Gameweek 25 approaches

This has been one nice lucky ride so far.
I know, I know. Any fantasy football manager who is doing reasonably well this Premier League will cringe at being called lucky but it is also true that fortune favours the brave.
To use my team’s example, I was oscillating between the second and fourth position in my office mini-league with mostly every one having the same set of players — Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
I just managed to hang on though I would have preferred at least one more of Marcus Alonso, Christensen, Jamie Vardy or Eden Hazard but then timing the rollercoaster with someone like Kane has its limitations while some others gained ground, slowly and painfully.
That’s why last week’s strategy of going against the popular grain, a gamble, on catching Kane out with Sergio Aguero as my captain gave me the utmost satisfaction when the latter got the hat-trick.
The appetite for risk was heightened and I intended to use a transfer early and go for a solid mid-range signing. As I said earlier, the intention is to keep Salah and Sterling while their big, form streaks persist and look for that extra edge. After all, captaincy gambles can only go so far.
Replacing Moussa Sissoko (£5.4 million) was the obvious choice. Money in the bank gave me a maximum budget of 7.1m for one straight swap option.
Marko Arnautovic has been transferred in by many but, to continue with my mood for adventure, I am banking on Theo Walcott to prove a point after the Arsenal midfielder’s transfer to Everton despite a lack of playing time in recent years. His debut against West Brom showed potential and that glimpse is enough to roll the dice.

Besides, my gut feeling is that one may have missed a major part of the form swing burst on the ride with Arnautovic. Despite Chelsea’s easy fixtures, Tiemoue Bakayoko is the best I can manage until Kane makes way in the second wild card.
Meanwhile, that Aguero hat-trick and swing in rankings over the past couple of weeks means I have waltzed from 183k to outside the 100k mark at just over 103,000 with all chips in the bank.

This is how the team looks now. It is time to bolster and show the moves. For now, Aguero seems set to continue with the arm band though Salah is an option, given Kane’s Spurs are up against Manchester United. That should be an interesting one!

Updated: (Jan 28, 6pm) Just as I published this, turns out Arnautovic is ruled out by hamstring injury for a month. Guess, it goes with the lucky rub.
Also Arthur Masuaku, whom I was going to get rid off anyway soon, has been suspended till mid-March for a moment of madness. So he makes way for James Tomkins, the Crystal Palace defender and an Everton target. That means the second transfer option has been used up, though.
